Werner Herzog
A graduate from ECA, I have earned a living as an artist and musician through teaching, performing, writing, graphic design publication and occasionally exhibiting within the visual arts. My teaching career has involved working in both secondary and primary sectors in Fife, and as a teaching fellow in the University of Edinburgh.
Music is also my passion; as a bass player working, touring, recording, writing and composing.

Since graduating from Edinburgh College of Art the creative life of Roy Middleton has been one of continuous evolution and exploration.
Whether playing and composing music or through visual art, he produces work that is engaging and unexpected.
In this show at The Whitespace Gallery, he exhibits a series of engrossing and multi-layered mixed media images.
Abstract, but not in a reductive sense, these works repay close examination.
Piece by piece, layer upon layer, the art re-creates cosmic mind-scapes, kaleidoscopic patterns and screens recording imagined journeys into other worlds and technologies.
By implication these explorations create a visual imagery perhaps more related to our future than our past.
Colour in these artworks ranges from transcendental to simple monochrome.
Biting fluorescences and contrasts convey the kind of images we are beginning to see from explorations into and beyond the solar system or experienced through satellites and electron microscopes.
These multi-imaged compositions convey a palpable sense of visiting and experiencing new worlds and altered states. The sense of scale and multiplicity of elements suggest futures - micro and macro, and journeys we have yet to experience.
Complex and imaginative, these works signpost a journey into outer and inner space.
